# What a Luxury or Collector Garage Costs A new US garage averages $29,584 (Angi, 2026) before upgrades. A car lift, a coated floor, cabinets and climate control can each add a few thousand dollars or more, and prices in the UK, Canada and Australia follow a similar pattern. Updated 2026-10-29. Then add each upgrade as a separate line. The figures below come from public cost guides. They are national averages or typical ranges. They are not quotes. Attached garages start at about $30 per square foot because they share walls and services with the house. Detached garages cost $40 to $70 per square foot (Angi, 2026). In Canada, RenoQuotes lists extra lines that many budgets miss. A frost-protected slab costs CA$25 to CA$30 per square foot. Electrical work costs CA$2,500 to CA$5,000. Permits cost CA$200 to CA$1,500 (RenoQuotes, 2026). In the UK, MyJobQuote prices a single brick garage with a pitched tile roof at about £25,000 (MyJobQuote, 2026). ## Car lifts The lift is only part of the cost. Elite Garage Tools gives these extra lines: a 220V circuit at $400 to $800, a panel upgrade at $800 to $2,000, and new concrete pads for a two-post lift at $800 to $1,500 (Elite Garage Tools, 2026). The Tekmetric figures are for repair shops, so a home lift can sit at the low end. For one example list price, BendPak showed its HD-9 four-post lift at $6,095 on the day we checked. ## Floors, cabinets and climate control Fixr prices thick-coat epoxy at $10 to $15 per square foot, or $5,750 to $8,625 for a 575 sq ft two-car garage (Fixr, 2025). That is higher than the Angi range, so ask what system each quote uses. We found no fetchable public cost guide for garage floor tiles. For cabinets, Angi gives metal cabinets at $200 to $2,400 per linear foot and premium wood at $100 to $1,200 per linear foot (Angi, 2026). ## Storage while you build If you store cars during the project, Neighbor puts US climate-controlled car storage at $150 to $420 or more per month (Neighbor, 2026).
